Leonardo DiCaprio is an American actor, film producer and environmentalist. He often played unconventional roles, especially in biopics and period films. In 2019, his films grossed $ 7.2 billion worldwide and he was ranked eight times in the annual ranking of the world’s highest paid actors.

Born in Los Angeles, DiCaprio began his career appearing in television commercials in the late 1980s. In the early 1990s, he played recurring roles in various television series, such as the sitcom Parenthood. Leonardo DiCaprio had his first major film role as Tobias “Toby” Wolff in This Boy’s Life (1993). He received critical acclaim and first Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for his supporting role as developmentally disabled boy Arnie Grape in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993); at 19, this makes him the seventh youngest candidate in the category. He rose to international stardom in the epic romance Titanic (1997), which became the highest grossing film at this point.

In the 2010s, he starred in the sci-fi thriller Inception (2010), the western Django Unchained (2012), the biopic The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), the survival drama The Revenant (2015) and the comedy-drama Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), all of which were critical and commercial successes. His accolades include an Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe Award for The Revenant as well as two other Golden Globes for The Aviator and The Wolf of Wall Street.

DiCaprio is the founder of Appian Way Productions – a production company that produced some of his films and the documentary series Greensburg (2008-2010) – and the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting the environmental awareness. He regularly supports charitable causes and has produced several documentaries on the environment. In 2005 he was named Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters for his contribution to the arts, and in 2016 he was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine.

DiCaprio’s personal life has received a lot of media attention. He rarely grants interviews and is hesitant to discuss his private life publicly, but he has been the subject of several articles detailing his involvement with women 25 and under over the past two decades. In 1999, DiCaprio met Brazilian model Gisele Bündchen, with whom he dated until 2005. He had a romantic relationship with Israeli model Bar Refaeli from 2005 to 2011, during which time he met Israeli President Shimon Peres. and visited Refaeli’s hometown, Hod HaSharon.

In 2005, DiCaprio’s face was badly injured when model Aretha Wilson hit him on the head with a broken bottle at a party in Hollywood. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced in 2010 to two years in prison. DiCaprio dated German model Toni Garrn from July 2013 to December 2014, and then in 2017.
