Marilyn Monroe Age, Family, Husband, Affairs, Net Worth, Biography & More
Marilyn Monroe born Name Norma Jeane Mortenson; (June 1, 1926 – August 4, 1962) was an American actress, model and singer. Famous for playing comic “blonde bombshell” characters, it became one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s and early 1960s and was emblematic of the changing attitudes of the time toward sexuality. . She has been a leading actress for only a decade, but her films grossed $ 200 million (equivalent to $ 2 billion in 2019) at the time of her death in 1962. Over half a century later, it continues to be a major iconic popular culture.
Monroe was born and raised in Los Angeles. She spent most of her childhood in foster homes and an orphanage and married at the age of 16. She was working in a factory as part of the war effort during World War II when she met a photographer from the First Motion Picture Unit and started a successful pin-up modeling career. The work led to short-term film contracts with 20th Century Fox and Columbia Pictures. After a series of small film roles, she signed a new contract with Fox in the late 1950s. Over the next two years, she became a popular actress with roles in several comedies, including As Young as You. Feel and Monkey Business, and in the dramas Clash by Night and don’t bother hitting. She faced a scandal when it was revealed that she had posed for nude photos before becoming a star, but the story did not detract from her career and instead sparked increased interest in her films.
In 1953, Monroe was one of the most marketable Hollywood stars; she had lead roles in the film noir Niagara, which focused on her sex appeal, and the comedies Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and How to Marry a Millionaire, who established her star image as a “stupid blonde”. In the same year, his nude images were used as the center fold and on the cover of the first issue of Playboy. She has played an important role in creating and managing her public image throughout her career, but was disappointed when it was transcribed and underpaid by the studio. She was briefly suspended in early 1954 for refusing a film project, but returned to the limelight in The Seven Year Itch (1955), one of the biggest box office successes of her career.
When the studio was still hesitant to change Monroe’s contract, she founded her own film production company in 1954. She spent 1955 building the company and began studying the acting method at Studio Actors. At the end of 1955, Fox awarded him a new contract, which gave him more control and a higher salary. Her following roles include a critically acclaimed performance in Bus Stop (1956) and her first independent production in The Prince and the Showgirl (1957). She won a Golden Globe for Best Actress for her work in Critical and Commercial success in Some Like It Hot (1959). His last completed film was the drama The Misfits (1961).
Monroe’s troubled privacy has received a lot of attention. She battled addiction, depression and anxiety. Her marriages with retired baseball star Joe DiMaggio and playwright Arthur Miller were widely publicized and both ended in divorce. On August 4, 1962, she died at the age of 36 from an overdose of barbiturates at her home in Los Angeles. His death was deemed probable suicide, although several conspiracy theories were put forward in the decades following his death.
