Vicky Kaushal was born on May 16, 1988. He is an Indian actor who works in Hindi films. Born of director Sham Kaushal, he earned an engineering degree from the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology. Aspiring to a career in film, Kaushal assisted Anurag Kashyap in the crime drama Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) and then played a minor role in two of Kashyap’s productions. Her first lead role was in the independent drama Masaan (2015), which earned her the IIFA and Screen Awards for a best male debut.
Kaushal was born on May 16, 1988 in a Chawl in the suburbs of Mumbai to Sham Kaushal, stuntman and then director of action films in Hindi. His younger brother, Sunny, is also an actor. His family is Punjabi. Kaushal described himself as an “ordinary kid who was interested in studying, playing cricket and watching movies”. His father wanted his son to have a stable career, so Kaushal pursued engineering studies in electronics and telecommunications at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology in Mumbai. During an industrial visit to a computer company, he realized that an office job would not suit him and he began to aspire to a career in cinema.
He briefly held an engineering position and began accompanying his father on film sets. He studied theater at the Kishore Namit Kapoor Academy and worked as an assistant director for Anurag Kashyap in the crime drama Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). Kaushal described good memories of his work with Kashyap, whom he sees as his mentor. He also started working on stage and had his first acting work in Manal Kaul’s production of Laal Pencil. In the cinema, Kaushal played a minor role in the productions of Kashyap, Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana (2012) and Bombay Velvet (2015), as well as in the experimental short Geek Out (2013).
After the starring role of a disconcerted policeman in Kashyap Raman Raghav’s psychological thriller 2.0 (2016), Kaushal became known in 2018 with supporting roles in Raazi and Sanju, two of the most profitable Hindi films in the world. Year. He also starred in Love movies by Netflix’s Square Foot and Lust Stories. In 2019, he played the role of a military officer in the action film Uri: The Surgical Strike.
